Previously in Parts 1 and 2 of this three-part series on Hertha Lund’s near-death experience, Hertha recounted how she found refuge with horse-people and began talking to GOD during a difficult childhood. As an adult, she lived with years of chronic pain and was eventually hospitalized with severe pain around her heart. During that hospital stay, she recalls leaving her body, becoming one with a tube of white and gold Light, and realizing she still had a reason to be on Earth. She promised GOD she would do whatever it took to heal. When she returned to her body, she was still seriously ill, and learning to sleep became her first step toward recovery.
In this third and final part, Hertha shares how she cared for her body, found joy and peace in everyday life, and began working alongside horse-people to help others heal. Alongside conventional medical care, Hertha tried acupuncture and worked with a naturopath who used herbs and homeopathy. She also tried Somatic Experiencing, an approach that focuses on how stress and trauma are felt in the body. Trusting her relationship with GOD to guide her, she found support in the town nearest her home and received some counseling remotely. About three or four years into her healing journey, she began to feel healthier and continued to improve. And I feel the best now at— and I’m in my early 60s— than I did when I was in my late 40s. So, I not only got back to baseline; I dug myself out of the hole, and I gained back a way of being healthy in my body that I maybe never had in my life because of not dealing with the pain. Hertha appreciated the care her doctors gave her. After her near-death experience, she came to see their care as one part of her recovery. She also had a role to play, taking steps each day to help herself heal.
I wanted— until I died and came back— I wanted somebody else to do it. Hertha now describes an ongoing conversation with GOD. Every morning, she follows a devotional practice she has maintained fairly steadily for about 40 years. She tries to stay present in her conversation with GOD, bringing her attention back whenever her mind wanders. Sometimes she begins by recalling the greatest love she has felt and reconnecting with that feeling. Hertha explains that a reminder of past trauma can make her body react as if the danger were happening again. She finds that memories of Love can bring back a physical feeling, too. When she retells her experience in the tube of Light, she feels the Love and oneness she felt then. She says returning to that memory helps her reconnect with those feelings in the present. Her healing journey changed how she viewed her body.
For years, she had struggled with being here on Earth and had pushed herself to keep working even when she was in pain. And actually, there was a part of me that was extremely arrogant because I was like, “GOD, why am I here?” And all I wanted to use my body for is to move my head from my pillow to my desk. It’s no wonder my body got sick. […] I was so hard on it. Hertha founded Four Horses for Wholeness. Through equine gestalt coaching, she works alongside her horse-people to help others address trauma and pursue their own healing. She says she now feels a joy and peace she never imagined possible, both in her daily life and in her work. Hertha encourages others to begin their own healing now.
I was very fortunate that I got to come back, and I would have been loved, and I would have been accepted, and I would have been in a very good place, but I wouldn’t have finished my reason for being. We all came here for something that we’re supposed to do. We do have something special that we’re meant to do, and the people that we’re meant to love, and the people we’re meant to serve, but to do that, the first and foremost for all of us is to manifest our own wholeness. I mean, there is nothing more important as a primary assignment for our life than to utilize all that we have around us and life has given us to heal ourselves, to manifest wholeness. And from there, each one of us will go out and be part of the revolution for wholeness. My mission now is to spark a revolution for wholeness, one heart at a time, and that’s the way we will change the outer world into the place we dream of.
